2011 Arkansas Earth Day Festival: April 23rd, 10am-3pm

8 More Days Until the Arkansas

 Earth Day Festival!

Here Are 8 Things We Are Excited About

 1.  Our Earth Day Café will include a smattering of delicious food vendors. ZaZa's Fine Salad and Wood-Oven Pizzas will be making all vegetarian pizzas with their traveling oven, The Green Cart Deli will be serving up hot dogs made by solar energy, The Green Cuisine and The Food Truck LR will have a menu of lunch items to choose from, and of course there will be ice cream for those that need a cool treat during the day.

 2.  Our Rock Green Music Stage will be powered by solar energy! There will be two solar trucks at the festival on display. A host of local entertainers will be performing at this year's Festival, including Chris Milligan & Friends, Kevin Maxon, Sarah Hughes Band, and Grace Askew.

 3.   River Trail Bicycle Rentals is letting the festival planning team use their cruisers and their adult tricycle to ride around in the early morning hours before and then during the festival. It will make things a breeze for set up. They will also have a booth at the festival.

4.   There will be tons of kid's activities and crafts from a rock climbing wall, to tie dyeing. You can make a recycled musical instrument or take a chance through the Green Box maze. Community groups will be bringing their animals from goats to snakes. And there will be various art projects to partake in. Also, the Great Cloth Diaper Change will be there at 11am in effort to make a Guinness book of world record for the largest diaper change happening all over the world at the same time.

 5.  A collection for recyclables will be available. Goodwill Industries will be collecting household goods and e-waste (drop off location under the Broadway Bridge), Freecycle will be collecting and giving away items for FREE to take home and reuse, and we will be collecting phones and charges at the welcome booth.

6.  Making its debut is the Elevate Stage a new area of the Festival where visitors can participate in free demonstrations from yoga to raw food. There will be music, lectures on how to green your life, and a drum circle. Next to the stage, sample one (or many) of the holistic health services showcased by Elevate Arkansas's wellness exhibitors.

7.  Education is a key component of the Earth Day Festival,

so all of the local-owned businesses and nonprofits will be sharing with you how they live and act green. Booths include exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

8.  Food vendors are required to use recyclable or compostable disposables (no plastic bottles allowed). Styrofoam/ #6 plastic are outlawed at the Festival. This material cannot be recycled in the Little Rock region and virtually never breaks down in a landfill. We will have food waste bins for compost and we will recycle all aluminum cans, paper, and glass (and of course, the occasional plastic bottle that sneaks by the entrance). Help us make the Festival more sustainable and try out these eco-conscious habits which can help you "Live Green Arkansas".
