Event Sustainability
Leading by example "Live Green Arkansas!"
Arkansas Earth Day is committed to providing the highest level of environmental stewardship possible at our Festival. We set the bar for sustainability through the following actions:
Event Vendors:
We use locally-owned businesses and vendors for our rentals, services and product purchases whenever possible.
Merchandise:
T-Shirts: 100% Organic Cotton or a blend of organic cotton and post consumer recycled plastic, printed locally. T-Shirt sales help sustain Arkansas Earth Day programs.
Education:
A lot of consideration is devoted to selecting the educational exhibitors that will provide programming at each Festival. Event-goers have learned everything from how to recycle things, to how to create natural habitat or conservation projects in your own back yard! Attendees young and old have learned about where their food comes from, how to interact with wild animals in a respectful manner, and how to translate green values to the voting booth, and so much more!
Waste:
- Food vendors are required to use recyclable or compostable disposables. Styrofoam/#6 plastic is outlawed at the Festival. This material cannot be recycled in the Little Rock region and virtually never breaks down in a landfill.
- Arkansas Earth Day always reuses what it can from year to year to reduce waste and expense. Guess what our banners are made from? I'll give way a hint: There are some with a nice dust ruffle at the bottom.
- We educate our vendors, particularly the food vendors, to reinforce our commitment to minimizing waste. We ask vendors to limit handouts. You can do your part by recycling your Festival program as you leave.
- Recycling and compost services are available to everyone who comes to the Festival, sponsored by our Crook Environmental Consulting and American Composting, Inc.
Food:
Food vendors are required to use recyclable or compostable disposables and participate in the recycling/compost program. They are encouraged to use natural, organic, and local ingredients. All food vendors are required to submit a healthy menu for review. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. We are grateful to our food vendors for their cooperation!
Energy:
Our Rock Green Music Stage is powered by solar energy. Check out the solar energy trucks located at both ends of the festival.
Transportation:
The Festival site is within walking distance from the C.A.T. bus stops and is easily accessible by bus and bike. We strongly urge Festival attendees to use alternative transport or carpool.
